Marriott Rewards MegaBonus
Marriott hotels run regular MegaBonus promotions for members, giving different opportunities to earn bonus points or free night stays. The latest such promotion is now live and this one offers double points on stays, starting from the second stay. It is valid at all brands within the Marriott portfolio and a maximum of 20,000 bonus points can be earned from all stays. This offer is individual and variants of the promotion exist.
The promotion runs from September 15th 2015 to January 15th 2016, so is good not just for fourth quarter stays but also any extended Christmas and New Year trips. Members must register before they stay, and can do that on the Marriott Rewards Megabonus Page.
Here at RewardPointers we estimate that standard Marriott points earning gives a cashback value of 8.4%, so when using this promotion you are getting a return of 16.8%, plus of course any elite status bonus in addition.
This can be a great value promotion if used correctly. With the first stay after registration not counting it is best to make this a low cost one night stay. The following stays will all then earn double points (with no need to restrict these to one night as the bonus is on all nights not just per stay as some promotions offer). The earnings cap of 20,000 points however means that once this is reached it may be more rewarding switching further stays to other hotel chains.
The RewardPointers team tested this out on a recent trip to Boston and San Francisco. Three hotel stays were made using the MegaBonus promotion. The first was at the lower cost Courtyard Boston Copley Place, followed by qualifying stays at the nearby Marriott Boston Copley Place and then the Marriott Marquis San Francisco. A total hotel spend of around $1000 earned a bonus of approximately 10,000 points from the MegaBonus promotion.
